“I never got the chance to join a team until I found the HK Society of Accountants Dragon Boat Team in 2004. Ever since dragon boat has been in my life. Over the past 16 years, I have been involved with several teams and organizations as a paddler, volunteer, or race organizer. The experience I had also opened up my interest to share dragon boat and its heritage with the world. In 2015, I was elected as Vice-Chairman (External) of the Amateur Dragon Boat Association of Hong Kong and my responsibility was to promote the club and dragon boating to the public. After two years at the ADB- HK, I formed Fame Dragon Boat Sports Association Limited with some close friends.
One of my friends noticed there was huge demand for race information from around the world, waiting to be shared and discovered. I continued using Facebook and created the page, ‘Dragon Lover 龍情之人’ (https://www.facebook.com/HKDBLover) on August 28, 2017, to continue my work in promoting the sport.
My favorite moment was in 2013 when I led the 7th HKG Scout Dragon Boat Team at their first race at the 1st Hong Kong Scout Dragon Boat Regatta at Shatin. Most of the team had little to no experience, but against all odds, we took gold in our first race. The victory was sweet because we managed to pull together scouts from all levels and backgrounds for cheering, financing and participating in the race. It was a success for the 7th Hong Kong Group and I believe that because of that race, lasting friendships were formed.
Through 16 years in dragon boating, I’ve continued to paddle and have been very fortunate to meet many inspiring friends who guide me along the way. I learn a lot from each and every one of them. And I am still learning!”
