Wally Bambasi
“I have always been an indoor person. I never did a team sport, just did table tennis and badminton. Way back in 2006, I saw a team in Manila Bay doing dragon boat paddling. I became interested to try, but it took me seven years before I really got to join a team. I was introduced to the sport officially by an acquaintance who eventually became my friend. The other reason why I also signed up was because I was going through a personal problem. Rather than sulk into sadness, I did the opposite and made myself more active. I fell in love with the sport and met other paddlers from other countries, who are friends (but in this sport, we call them family).
I have been paddling for six years now with Triton Dragon Boat Racing Team. One of the milestones in my career would be joining Triton in IDBF CCWC 2016 in Adelaide, Australia. I also joined Tokyo Dragon Boat Club while I was in Japan last year.
It’s been fun, and I am not going to give up this great sport. Just like in this sport and life, the harder the program and challenges, the stronger we become.”
